Two monks seek for a good monastery

Okasa bhante,

Two forest monks (bhikkhu and samanera) in Sri Lanka seek for information about good forest monasteries/teachers in Thailand or Burma. They hope to go and stay for a long time or stay permanently. Yet they don't believe the information on websites. They only consider advises coming from forest monks.

I'll be grateful if you could post an advice in this regard?

Sadhu, Sadhu for the care!

Straight forward. There is no such as a secure home for forest-dweller found. Each so called "forest-monastery" is simply nonsens, and promoted and marked for householders, monks and lay-people as such.

To meet kammathana-monks, teacher, one must beginn the path. To live a homeless live of a wandering beggar, one must leave live.

Having had guided Bhante Indaññāno. some times to Sri Lanka, in a forest monastery, total alone, it was because he had to totally leave home, no refuge at all, no language, nobody to speak, no same kind...

If the Ven. like to really walk into the battle, it's good to do it alone for each other. What ever place seems to be serious about Vinaya. It might be difficult in regard of visa, support for such... if holding such things. But one getting in this "secure" support and providing, it's also difficult to leace home.

How ever, much encouragement for the Ven. to leave land, home, refuge of "same"-kind and so on.

Bhante Subhuti might know starting places, might possible help in what is possible to help, thinking he has still contact to Burma and knows Sri Lanka as well.

Bhante Paññobhāsa might be of help for starting points in Burma.

Bhante Martin Piyadhammo (disciple of Ajahn Bowa, from Germany) might help in regard of Thailand.

Also Bhante Hasapanno , dwelling as Mahanikaya origin together with Dhammayut Monks, in Australia and used to walk like an rino, might be of help for starting points.

Yet all of them, as it seems, are much busy and much involved to care a lot for householders.

Please, if possible take care of alk this Visa and formal things as lay people. Don't let Monks get involved, althought usually, and there is a lot, lot of merits, to provide monks the possibility of not being caught behind borders.

Monks can not provide each other with formal things. If they do, can, organice, they are certain bond or in debt. So please do never count in this regard and talk with other lay people to manage such things.

Encourage monks to meet here at sangham.et, each other, in the monastic, not public area, beyond borders as long such is possible and given, help them to access, help them to meet each other easy, without borders and often. Turn them away from facebook and other contacts and states territories to stay homeless or become really homeless and live only in Refuge of the Gems.

Less are left, less have found firm refuge, less are "free like birds" yet not fearing to be also caught and eaten by their past ripping deeds.

(Also, be sure that monks you support have actually good and right attentions and are able to carry only 8 things and no begs and signs of householders, can live by only being provided by their alms bowl. It otherwise cause damage for future Monks seeking support by good fellows and lay people as well)

If Nyom gus likes to help in provinding access to here, it's possible, the Sangha is given, to share email accounts, access... it's good if lay people take care on it, assist in all things, it's good if Nyom focus on maintaining a good relation to the generous giver of this place (Upasaka Moritz , Upasika Sophorn ) and a matter of duty in his relations.
And "please"!! Stop this not faith and trust supporting hiding face and name, it shows that there is still much doubt in kamma, and the juwels. For a person having faith it's not proper. Even for normal tradition, folksways, it's actually very impolite and not proper for one who knows and is informed. It's the modesty of someone in fear, deluded modesty, if thought that this is the intention. If having reasonable reason to fear, better to use householders/monks ways of modern days in comic forums and on hunter and gatherer places in commercial sorounding. That's a specially "family" place and for those who desire to become part of it, by finding it worthy to support.

There is also no problem to use other language, script... and there are ways to make it more accessible for Sinhalese language as well, if thinking or wishing to prepare easy and comfortable ways to walk for those worthy of it (e.g. focus on the Noble Sangha and good following disciples and their following by mind)

* Johann : People, place of dwelling, food, weather... are all matters of strong conditions/fundations/base (Upanissaya-Paccaya and the given causes for it. (Monks, Theras, always used to say, when meeting/met, "very high upanissaya. Nowhere to find, never met...", probably ask them.) Given causes previous and each moment. Where ever one tends to, there he/she lands, that's what or where one arises and beyond. That's why repeating "leaving home first" all the time, since Dhamma can not be seen, Buddha, Dhamma, Sangha, never met, if not giving up house first (especially in it's dhammic meaning, manigfold). My person can not trace many places in this world left, where the holly live can be lived if having certain necessary right intention, effort, Upanissaya for it. Impossible for common people at the same time, impossible for householders, used to fine sorted households.

Deva gus knows that my person tells much, not hidden, which would be not proper in certain circumstances, yes? So don't get attached to it at all.

Another thing, very important, often violated. Support, dwelling, welcome, should be provided by lay people of the area a dwelling. It's totally improper, harming... bad, if such dwelling is supported simply from outside. Even within countries. Whole monasteries are often maintained by people far away, sometimes like occupations. There is no merits for the nearby people, often also payed or making an earning rather to use the Sangha or single Monks as a field of merits.

Like also in the west often: that leads all to conflicts, corruption and is not supportive for anybody.

If ordinary people actually are not given to look after beggars, normal laws don't allow it, contracts or dependencies others than proper in ones relations are necessary, if there is no invitation of a King, real governing head of state, or landlord, potent and free layperson: don't purchase it. Lot of suffering, compromises... and lead by raw Bhava-tanha.

Again, althought often Monks take care on things they actually could not, how ever "compassioned", do not bring them in situations where they would possible need to leave Vinaya, proper and given.

So that a good relation between Monks is possible, lay people and their leader need to invest into maintaining good relations as well, highly respect each other and build on Sanghavatthu and the Brahmaviharas.

It's the tome of Pchum Ben here, ancestor halfmonth, where all communities travel to each other, visit each other across the land, and increase by this ways good relation and all factors for a health and united larger community in kusala and traditional way, and it would be great to see that growing over borders of nations in same way.

Vandami for your repeated advise on the value of Nekkhamma. May this advising kusala strengthen your already done Nekkhamma furthermore.

I have noticed this in many places. And I have seen some monks who don't do this, yet many of them have some other problems like too much anger or mana. Utlimately however the compassionate rich monks win.

Unfortunately many of wellknown masters prefer the support from outside.

Yet, some monasteries like wat pa pong are said to have support from both village and outside.

It is hard to find a successful sub-lineage which have continued a simple monastery supporting system for a long time.

Aniccaṃ mean not just decay: change, not possible to get under control, still arising and decay for one, on and on. The Buddha and his dispiples... not even in his time practice, monasteries, groups... have stayed at one place.

It's the householder-illusion of dreaming that Buddha, Dhamma, Sangha can be domesticated aside of individuals Upanissaya. Same place, same people, one meets, one not. Same place a year later total fallen left. Another person a year later, meeting another ārammaṇa (word-play).

My person knows of not one so called forest-monastery where monks not actually care about money in different ways (mind, speech, deeds...). Forest-monasteries are naturally subject to be simply nonsens and the "sages" usually go astray because troubles with dividing the many offerings...

When finding good places, they consitst if good on possible 3-6 Bhikkhus, some Samaneras and are usually unknown even two Villages far. And Bhikkhus of this kind, even if dwelling in monasteries for a while, seldom stay two vassas on one and same place, which would need extreme hight Upanissaya with the lay people around or more common corrupted livelihood (in improper dependency on 1,2, 3..5 families, villages).

People often report that it's not possible, no other monk could stay, do, even if having assistent, holding money, big following... here, in this way...

My person thinkd that it is not different anywhere else. Again, Dhamma-Vinaya does not depend on jātī, in all it's many meanings and use, but is simply a matter of upanissayapaccayena, anatta, hard to controll aside of simply leaving it to best causes possible.

And: if trying to find such perfect conditions for others, having not talent in certain abhiññas. No way at all. Suffering like parents loving (desire) to controll their children. A lot of suffering, wrong doing... out of this.

That does not mean to give no paccaya if able to, butto really give and let go. Than it is at least purified on one side and in this way also of great help for personal receiver, gives debt toward Nibbana.
