Life and Hope Angkor's - Actions and appeal

Cambodian Floods - Life and Hope Angkor

 Dear LHA Family and Friends,

Cambodian Flood has taken at least 104 lives, 15,893 families and 73,108 individuals seriously affected, and damaged at least 500 million US dollar.

As a result of heavy rains since the 3rd week of September thousands of families around the country have been seriously affected. The continuous rains in neighbouring countries have caused repeated flash floods in some provinces including Siem Reap.

Access to some communities is difficult and in some instances can only be done by boat. Other problems related to the flooding are loss of safe living space, no access to clean drinking water, no access to sanitation facilities, risk of disease outbreaks, loss of farming land, especially rice growing and the danger related to the shifting of land-mines still hidden beneath much of Cambodian water logged soil.

Of course at times of disaster it is the most vulnerable members of the communities who are at risk such as single mothers caring for the household, children and the elderly.

Although every day, I know many lives are changing through our works at Life and Hope Association (LHA), but these days lately it has been so hard for me particularly to concentrate only on LHA’s priorities while ignoring the flood victims.

To fulfil our souls’ hunger of being service to others, we, the Life and Hope Association’s families, the monks of Wat Damnak, would like to ask you to share again your compassionate hearts with those flood victims. Any help is more than welcome and it will make a huge difference. Anything you donate will mean a lot to them.

Estimated cost for per family is $30, including 30 kg of rice, soy source, soy fish, salt, and other necessities for health/hygiene.

f you wish to be part of our emergency mission for those victims in dire needs, kindly make a direct donation to us in LHA’s name or: Somnieng Hoeurn (monk), position: executive director.

Donation methods:
PayPal - click here to donate to LHA via Give2Asia ('flood fund 2013' in special instructions)
Bank - click here for LHA's full remittance details

Please email us to advise of your donation.

Or if you are already in Siem Reap, please come to our office at Wat Damnak (near old market), or give us a call at the numbers at the bottom of this email.

So, please see it like the people here, if: than. No need to feel guilty or pressured. It's just the way thinks are done today.

Note: This Dana is not Free-Dana, just do it if you feel that it is a good time to let go, otherwise you would get involved and burdened at least.

I like the smart woman on the car tire. You can not imagine the joy the kids have at such a time, as long as there is no danger seen.

You should know, that actually very less people even they live on the water for a live time can swim, have learned to swim. That is the main reason why there are so much dead's. Sadly nobody has interest neither to teach it nor invest in preventions.

And you also should know that most are used to floods and live in such areas, as soil is good for farming. So it's a millennium old issue, just that they imported western housing and try to control the nature and with it they cause more and more trouble.

How ever, that would be a matter for later on, or, later, or later.

73,108 individuals :) Asian tries to be correct. Have to laugh.

You can have such pictures of the main street next to us as well. So maybe since yesterday they are 73.155. Not sure if they count individual cases. How ever, as far as I know the normal ways, the stuff will provided directly from the NGO stuff to the people they are in touch, ride on side and mostly combined with a official ceremony and involvement of the village and province officials and some years ago, LHA had good contact and a respected position among them.
