"And what is the treasure of generosity? There is the case of a disciple of the noble ones, his awareness cleansed of the stain of stinginess, living at home, freely generous, openhanded, delighting in being magnanimous, responsive to requests, delighting in the distribution of alms. This is called the treasure of generosity.
All Noble one have common to be free from the stain of stinginess. Having touched the truth, knowing about the worth of things already well, their are incapable to reject giving of what can be given.
That's for example the reason why Bhikkhus are encouraged to declare a lay person, family, "fit to be trained" as such, as a tool to avoid it that people or families grow poor. They would only accept gifts if they approach from themselves coming to the front and not in cases they would "run" behind. They would be no more approached in this regard and gift only in special circumstances exepted.
A Noble person, of course, can not, is not really able to give something that is not his own or in cases he/she is not allowed to give. When ever giving is done, it is based on moral virtue. That might be a reason why a Noble person may appear "stingy" for others, who, if not of integrity, of course would not be able to understand.
For example there might be a person asking a monk for some mangos from a monastery tree. Being the own of the Sangha, not allowed to be shared outwardly he does not approve. Or a lay person, having a personal licensed software, would be asked by a friend to make a copy for him. In cases he can, would probably give up his licence and transfere it in his domain.
So in cases where his/her giving would be harmful for others, lead to lose for someone, he/she might not give, searching of course eager for alternatives possible for him/her.
What does Nyom think and all others? Has a Sotapanna, and upward, reasons to reject giving?
