Obiviously very shameless answered, as if not his or not responsible... (actually something he trains in this non-dhammic tradition):
I took this photo 5 minutes ago - clearing some brush off my little farm. As was said already, laypeople go about their lives normally, doing all sorts of work.
One could only "pray" that this sect never infects one relatives and society... but it looks actually different and there are certain 1001 livesamples of how much suffering increasing wrong Dhamma (understanding) actually is.
Surely more enlightening and also previous answer predicting answer:
It is not the Buddhism destructive, it is not knowing Buddhism properly is destructive.
Buddha equates this to a holding a snake in his tail instead of its head in Alaguptama Sutta.
I have seen this is happening in Sri Lanka.
So my persons answer would be yes, Buddh-ism is virtually, and for all with eyes, in regard of benefical destructive, while the Buddha-Dhamma is only for the destructive sake for destroying akusala, harm an suffering, for BOTH at the same time, oneself and all others.
And it's surely not easy to bear of what Niganthas and Nihilists are able to conduct in the name of the Buddha... and householder-equanimity...
May they, even if the chances by constant association with fools are very small, come to mind, now, where the heritage still exists.
