The Buddha instructed faithful followers in how to address another instructed at a serious illness, before death. Shared it here already, but just not at "hand", in ways of "not having sorrows in regard of family... sensuality... up to the devas... and so on.

I am not sure whether there is one advice for "just ill", remembering just the Sutta how to approach monk by monk.

There are some for the last hour, yes, mostly of instructed lay people.

The talks toward monks are most related to

Namo tassa bhagavato arahato sammā-sambuddhassa

"There is the case where a monk [1] remains focused on unattractiveness with regard to the body, [2] is percipient of foulness with regard to food, [3] is percipient of distaste with regard to every world, [4] is percipient of the undesirability of all fabrications, and [5] has the perception of death well established within himself.

In regard of lay people, as focus needs to be from very worldly to lighter, still having a lo off objectives, there is most the easing by letting go of worries about families, worry about lack of sensuality, since there is higher, then from one stage of heaven to the next till letting go of even this. This pattern has been given to Anattapindika before the Buddha left the Vassa, as he asked because the Buddha did not teach yet. Just not finding for now.

In cases of strong relation it's possible that one knowing the Dhamma could do more as just lead into low deva realms for some release. Usually it ends by reflecting the Gems, reflecting on merits, recitation in Pali as there is seldom someone able to teach. Finding the Sutta, my person can look after the Khmer translation, so that it could be read and taught.

Gilana Sutta

On one occasion the Blessed One was staying among the Sakyans at Kapilavatthu in the Banyan Park. Now at that time many monks were at work making robes for the Blessed One, [thinking,] “When the robes are finished, at the end of the three months, the Blessed One will set out wandering.”

Mahanama the Sakyan heard that many monks were at work making robes for the Blessed One, [thinking,] “When the robes are finished, at the end of the three months, the Blessed One will set out wandering.” So he approached the Blessed One and, on arrival, having bowed down, sat to one side. As he was sitting there he said to the Blessed One: “I have heard that many monks are at work making robes for the Blessed One, [thinking,] 'When the robes are finished, at the end of the three months, the Blessed One will set out wandering.' But I haven't heard in the Blessed One's presence, haven't learned in the Blessed One's presence, how a discerning lay follower who is diseased, in pain, severely ill should be instructed by [another] discerning lay follower.”

“Mahanama, a discerning lay follower(1) who is diseased, in pain, severely ill should be reassured by another discerning lay follower with four reassurances: 'Be reassured, friend, that you are endowed with verified confidence in the Awakened One: “Indeed, the Blessed One is worthy & rightly self-awakened, consummate in knowledge & conduct, well-gone, an expert with regard to the world, unexcelled as a trainer for those people fit to be tamed, the Teacher of divine & human beings, awakened, blessed.”

”'Be reassured, friend, that you have verified confidence in the Dhamma: “The Dhamma is well-expounded by the Blessed One, to be seen here & now, timeless, inviting verification, pertinent, to be realized by the wise for themselves.”

“'Be reassured, friend, that you have verified confidence in the Sangha: “The Sangha of the Blessed One's disciples who have practiced well… who have practiced straight-forwardly… who have practiced methodically… who have practiced masterfully — in other words, the four pairs, the eight individuals — they are the Sangha of the Blessed One's disciples: worthy of gifts, worthy of hospitality, worthy of offerings, worthy of respect, the incomparable field of merit for the world.”

”'Be reassured, friend, that you have virtues that are appealing to the noble ones: untorn, unbroken, unspotted, unsplattered, liberating, praised by the wise, untarnished, leading to concentration.'

“Mahanama, when a discerning lay follower who is diseased, in pain, severely ill has been reassured by another discerning lay follower with these four reassurances, he should be asked: 'Friend, are you concerned for your mother & father?' If he should say, 'I am concerned for my mother & father,' he should be told, 'You, my dear friend, are subject to death. If you feel concern for your mother & father, you're still going to die. If you don't feel concern for your mother & father, you're still going to die. It would be good if you abandoned concern for your mother & father.'

“If he should say, “My concern for my mother & father has been abandoned,' he should be asked, 'Friend, are you concerned for your wife & children?' If he should say, 'I am concerned for my wife & children,' he should be told, 'You, my dear friend, are subject to death. If you feel concern for your wife & children, you're still going to die. If you don't feel concern for your wife & children, you're still going to die. It would be good if you abandoned concern for your wife & children.'

“If he should say, “My concern for my wife & children has been abandoned,' he should be asked, 'Friend, are you concerned for the five strings of human sensuality?' If he should say, 'I am concerned for the five strings of human sensuality,' he should be told, 'Friend, divine sensual pleasures are more splendid & more refined than human sensual pleasures. It would be good if, having raised your mind above human sensual pleasures, you set it on the Devas of the Four Great Kings.'

“If he should say, 'My mind is raised above human sensual pleasures and is set on the Devas of the Four Great Kings,' he should be told, 'Friend, the Devas of the Thirty-three are more splendid & more refined than the Devas of the Four Great Kings. It would be good if, having raised your mind above the Devas of the Four Great Kings, you set it on the Devas of the Thirty-three.'

“If he should say, 'My mind is raised above the Devas of the Four Great Kings and is set on the Devas of the Thirty-three,' he should be told, 'Friend, the Devas of the Hours are more splendid & more refined than the Devas of the Thirty-three. It would be good if, having raised your mind above the Devas of the Thirty-three, you set it on the Devas of the Hours.'

“If he should say, 'My mind is raised above the Devas of the Thirty-three and is set on the Devas of the Hours,' he should be told, 'Friend, the Contented Devas are more splendid & more refined than the Devas of the Hours… the Devas Delighting in Creation are more splendid & more refined than the Contented Devas… the Devas Wielding Power over the Creations of Others are more splendid & more refined than the Devas Delighting in Creation… the Brahma world is more splendid and more refined than the Devas Wielding Power over the Creations of Others. It would be good if, having raised your mind above the Devas Wielding Power over the Creations of Others, you set it on the Brahma world.'

“If he should say, 'My mind is raised above the Devas Wielding Power over the Creations of Others and is set on the Brahma world,' he should be told, 'Friend, even the Brahma world is inconstant, impermanent, included in self-identity. It would be good if, having raised your mind above the Brahma world, you brought it to the cessation of self-identity.'

“If he should say, 'My mind is raised above the Brahma worlds and is brought to the cessation of self-identity,' then, I tell you, Mahanama, there is no difference — in terms of release — between the release of that lay follower whose mind is released and the release of a monk whose mind is released.”

[៣២៨] សម័យ​មួយ ព្រះ​ដ៏​មានព្រះ​ភាគ ​ទ្រង់​គង់​នៅ​ក្នុង​និគ្រោធារាម ទៀប​ក្រុង​កបិល​ព័ស្តុ ​ក្នុង​ដែន​សក្កៈ។ ក៏ក្នុង​សម័យ​នោះ​ឯង ពួក​ភិក្ខុ​ច្រើន​រូប ​នាំ​គ្នា​ដេរ​ចីវរថ្វាយ​ព្រះ​ដ៏​មានព្រះ​ភាគ ​ដោយ​គិត​ថា ព្រះ​ដ៏​មានព្រះ​ភាគ ​មានចីវរសម្រេច​ហើយ ព្រះ​អង្គ​នឹង​ស្ដេច​ទៅកាន់​ចារិក​ ដោយកាល​ប្រព្រឹត្ត​កន្លង​ទៅ ​នៃ​ខែ ​៣។ មហានាម​សក្កៈ​ បាន​ឮ​ដំណឹង​​​​​ថា ​ឮថាពួក​ភិក្ខុ​ច្រើន​រូប​​ ដេរ​ចីវរថ្វាយ​ព្រះ​ដ៏​មានព្រះ​ភាគ ​ដោយ​គិត​ថា ព្រះ​ដ៏​មាន​ព្រះ​ភាគ​ មានចីវរសម្រេច​ហើយ ព្រះ​អង្គ​នឹង​ស្ដេច​ទៅកាន់​ចារិក​ ដោយកាល​ប្រព្រឹត្ត​កន្លង​ទៅ​នៃ​ខែ​ ៣។ លំដាប់​នោះ មហានាម​សក្កៈ​ ក៏ចូល​ទៅគាល់​ព្រះ​ដ៏​មានព្រះ​ភាគ លុះ​ចូល​ទៅ​ដល់​ហើយ ថ្វាយ​បង្គំ​ព្រះ​ដ៏​មានព្រះ​ភាគ រួច​គង់​ក្នុង​ទី​សម​គួរ។ លុះ​មហានាម​សក្កៈ គង់​ក្នុង​ទី​សម​គួ​រហើយ ក្រាប​ទូល​ព្រះ​ដ៏​មានព្រះ​ភាគ ​យ៉ាង​នេះ​ថា បពិត្រ​ព្រះ​អង្គ​ដ៏​ចំរើន ខ្ញុំ​ព្រះអង្គ​ឮ​ដំណឹង​នេះ​ថា ឮថា ពួក​ភិក្ខុ​ច្រើន​រូប ​ដេរ​ចីវរថ្វាយ​ព្រះ​ដ៏​មានព្រះ​ភាគ​ ដោយ​គិត​ថា ព្រះ​ដ៏​មានព្រះ​ភាគ​ មានចីវរសម្រេច​ហើយ ព្រះ​អង្គ​នឹង​ស្ដេច​ទៅកាន់​ចារិក​ ដោយកាល​ប្រព្រឹត្ត​កន្លង​ទៅ​ នៃ​ខែ ​៣។ បពិត្រ​ព្រះ​អង្គ​ដ៏​ចំរើន ខ្ញុំ​ព្រះអង្គ មិនទាន់​បាន​ស្ដាប់ធម៌​ ចំពោះ​ព្រះ​ភក្ត្រ​ព្រះ​ដ៏​មានព្រះភាគ មិនទាន់​បាន​ទទួល ​ចំពោះ​ព្រះ​ភក្ត្រ​យ៉ាង​នេះ​ថា ឧបាសក​ប្រកប​ដោយ​ប្រាជ្ញា (សម្រេច​ស្រោតៈ) ដែល​មានអាពាធ ដល់​នូវ​ទុក្ខ​វេទនា ​ឈឺធ្ងន់ ត្រូវ​តែ​ឧ​បាសក ​ដែល​ប្រកប​ដោយ​ប្រាជ្ញា​ទូន្មាន​គ្នា​។

[​៣២៩] ម្នាល​មហានាម ឧបាសកដែល​ប្រកប​ដោយ​ប្រាជ្ញា មានអាពាធ ដល់​នូវ​ទុក្ខ​វេទនា ឈឺធ្ងន់ ត្រូវ​តែ​ឧ​បាសក​​ប្រកប​ដោយ​ប្រាជ្ញា​ លួង​លោម​ដោយ​ធម៌ ដែល​​​គួរ​លួង​លោម​ ៤ យ៉ាងថា អ្នក​ដ៏​មានអាយុ ចូរដកដង្ហើម​ឲ្យស្រួលចុះ ព្រោះ​អ្នក​ដ៏​មានអាយុ មានសេចក្ដី​ជ្រះថ្លា​ មិន​ញាប់​ញ័រ ក្នុង​ព្រះពុទ្ធ​ថា​ ព្រះ​ដ៏​មានព្រះ​ភាគ​នោះ ​​​។បេ។​​​ ជាសាស្ដា​នៃទេវតា​ និង​មនុស្ស​ទាំងឡាយ ជាព្រះ​ពុទ្ធ​មានជោគ ដោយ​ហេតុ​ដូច្នេះ​ឯង។ អ្នក​ដ៏​មានអាយុ ចូរ​ដកដង្ហើម​ឲ្យ​ស្រួល​ចុះ ព្រោះ​អ្នក​ដ៏​មានអាយុ​ (មានសេចក្ដី​ជ្រះថ្លា ​មិនញាប់​ញ័រ) ក្នុង​ព្រះធម៌។ ក្នុង​ព្រះសង្ឃ។ ​អរិយកន្ត​សីល​ ជាសីលមិនដាច់  ប្រព្រឹត្តទៅ ដើម្បី​សមាធិ។

[៣៣០] ម្នាល​មហានាម ឧបាសក ប្រកប​ដោយ​ប្រាជ្ញា មាន​អាពាធ​ ដល់​នូវ​ទុក្ខ​វេទនា​ឈឺធ្ងន់ ដែល​ឧបាសក​ប្រកប​ដោ​យ​ប្រាជ្ញា ទូន្មាន​ដោយ​ធម៌ ដែលគួរលួងលោម​ទាំង​៤ ​នេះ​ហើយ ត្រូវនិយាយយ៉ាង​នេះ​ថា អ្នក​ដ៏​មានអាយុ ​មាន​សេចក្ដី​អាឡោះ​អាល័យ​មាតា​បិតាឬ។ បើឧបាសកនោះ និយាយយ៉ាងនេះថា ខ្ញុំនៅមានសេចក្តីអាឡោះ​អាល័យ​​មាតាបិតាដែរ។ ត្រូវនិយាយ​នឹង​ឧបាសក​នោះ​ យ៉ាង​នេះ​ថា អ្នក​ដ៏​មាន​អាយុ​ ជាប់​ជំពាក់​​ដោយ​សេចក្ដី​ស្លាប់ ទៀង​តែ​នឹង​ស្លាប់ ប្រសិន​បើ​អ្នក​ដ៏​មាន​អាយុ​ នៅ​ជាប់​​អាឡោះ​អាល័យ​ នឹង​មាតាបិតា អ្នក​ដ៏​មានអាយុ​ គង់​តែ​នឹង​ស្លាប់ បើ​ទុក​ជាអ្នក​ដ៏​មានអាយុ មិន​អាឡោះ​អាល័យ ​នឹង​មាតាបិតា អ្នក​ដ៏​មានអាយុ​ គង់​តែ​នឹង​ស្លាប់ដែរ សូម​ឲ្យ​អ្នក​ដ៏​មាន​អាយុ ​លះបង់​សេចក្ដី​អាឡោះ​អាល័យរបស់​អ្នក ​ក្នុង​មាតាបិតា​នោះ​ចេញ។ បើ​ឧបាសក​នោះ​ និយាយ​យ៉ាងនេះ​ថា ខ្ញុំ​លះបង់សេចក្ដី​អាឡោះ​អាល័យ​ ក្នុង​មាតាបិតា​នោះ​រួច​ហើយ។

[៣៣១] ត្រូវនិយាយនឹង​ឧបាសក​នោះ​ យ៉ាងនេះថា អ្នក​ដ៏​មានអាយុ ​មាន​សេចក្ដី​អាឡោះ​អាល័យ​ ក្នុងបុត្ត និង​ភរិយា​ដែរឬ។ បើ​ឧបាសក​នោះ​ និយាយយ៉ាងនេះ​ថា ខ្ញុំ​នៅ​មាន​សេចក្ដីអាឡោះ​អាល័យ ​ក្នុងបុត្តនិង​ភរិយា​ដែរ។ ត្រូវនិយាយ​នឹង​ឧបាសក​នោះ ​យ៉ាង​នេះ​ថា អ្នក​ដ៏​មាន​អាយុ ជាប់​ជំពាក់នឹង​សេចក្ដី​ស្លាប់ ហើយទៀង​តែ​នឹង​ស្លាប់ បើទុកជា​អ្នក​​ដ៏​មាន​អាយុ ​នៅ​មានសេចក្តី​​អាឡោះ​អាល័យ​ ក្នុងបុត្តនិង​ភរិយា អ្នក​ដ៏​មាន​អាយុ​គង់​តែ​នឹង​ស្លាប់ បើ​អ្នក​ដ៏​មានអាយុ មិនមាន​សេចក្តីអាឡោះ​​​អាល័យ​ ក្នុងបុត្តនិង​ភរិយា អ្នក​ដ៏​មានអាយុ​ គង់​តែ​នឹង​ស្លាប់ សូម​អ្នក​ដ៏​មានអាយុ លះបង់​សេចក្ដី​អាឡោះ​អាល័យ ​ក្នុងបុត្ត និង​ភរិយា របស់អ្នក​នោះ​ចេញ។ បើ​ឧបាសក​នោះ ​និយាយ​យ៉ាងនេះ​ថា ខ្ញុំ​បានលះសេចក្ដី​អាឡោះ​អាល័យ​ ក្នុង​បុត្ត​ និង​ភរិយា​នោះ​ចេញ​ហើយ។

[៣៣២] ត្រូវនិយាយនឹង​ឧបាសក​នោះ​ យ៉ាងនេះថា អ្នក​ដ៏​មានអាយុ​ មាន​សេចក្ដី​អាឡោះ​អាល័យ ​ក្នុងកាមគុណ ទាំង ៥​ ជារបស់​មនុស្ស​ដែរឬ។ បើ​ឧបាសក​នោះ​ និយាយ​​​​យ៉ាងនេះ​ថា ខ្ញុំ​មាន​សេចក្ដីអាឡោះ​អាល័យ ​ក្នុងកាមគុណ ទាំង ៥​ ជារបស់​មនុស្ស​ដែរ។ ត្រូវនិយាយ​នឹង​ឧបាសក​នោះ​ យ៉ាង​នេះ​ថា ម្នាល​អាវុសោ កាមជាទិព្យ​ ជារបស់​រុង​រឿង​ផង ឧត្ដមផង ជាងកាមទាំងឡាយ ជារបស់​មនុស្ស សូម​​អ្នក​ដ៏​មានអាយុ ​ធ្វើចិត្ត​ឲ្យ​ផុត​ចាក​កាម​ ជារបស់​មនុស្ស​ចេញ ​ហើយ​ចូរដម្កល់​ចិត្ត​ ក្នុង​ពួក​ទេវតា ​ស្ថាន​ចាតុម្ម​ហា​​​​​​​រាជិកចុះ។ បើ​ឧបាសក​នោះ​ និយាយ​យ៉ាងនេះ​ថា ចិត្តរបស់ខ្ញុំ​ ផុតស្រឡះ​ចាកកាម​ជារបស់​មនុស្ស​ហើយ ខ្ញុំ​បាន​ដម្កល់​ចិត្ត​ទុក ​ក្នុង​ពួក​ទេវតា​ជាន់​ចាតុម្ម​ហារាជិក​ហើយ។

[៣៣៣] ត្រូវ​និយាយនឹង​ឧបាសក​នោះ យ៉ាង​នេះ​ថា ម្នាល​អាវុសោ ពួកតាវត្តិង្ស​ទេវតា ​រុង​រឿងជាង ឧត្ដម​ជាងពួក​ចាតុម្មហារាជិក​ទេវតា សូម​អ្នក​ដ៏មានអាយុ ​ដក​ចិត្ត​អំពី​ពួក​ចាតុម្ម​ហារាជិក​ទេវតា​ចេញ ហើយ​ដម្កល់​ចិត្ត​ ក្នុង​ពួក​តាវត្តិង្ស​ទេវតា​ចុះ។ បើ​ឧបាសក​នោះ​ និយាយ​យ៉ាងនេះ​ថា ចិត្តខ្ញុំបានដក​ផុត​ អំពីពួក​ចាតុម្មហារាជិក​ទេវតា​ហើយ ខ្ញុំបាន ដម្កល់​ចិត្ត ក្នុង​ពួក​តាវត្តិង្ស​ទេវតា​ហើយ។ ត្រូវ​និយាយនឹង​ឧបាសក​នោះ​ យ៉ាង​នេះ​ថា ម្នាល​អាវុសោ ពួកយាម​ទេវតា ​រុងរឿង​ជាង​ពួក​តាវត្តិង្ស​ទេវតា។ ពួក​តុសិត​ទេវតា។ ពួក​និម្មាន​រតីទេវតា។ ពួក​បរនិម្មិតវសវត្តីទេវតា។ ម្នាល​អាវុសោ ព្រហ្មលោក ​រុងរឿង​ជាង​ ឧត្ដមជាង ពួក​បរនិម្មិត​វសវត្តីទេវតា សូមអ្នក​ដ៏​មានអាយុ​ ដកចិត្ត​អំពីពួក​បរនិម្មិតវសវត្តី​ទេវតា​ចេញ​ ហើយ​ដម្កល់​ចិត្ត​ ក្នុង​ព្រហ្ម​លោក​វិញ។ បើ​ឧបាសក​​​​​​​នោះ​ និយាយ​យ៉ាងនេះ​ថា ចិត្តខ្ញុំបានដកចេញ អំពី​ពួក​បរនិម្មិត​វសវត្តី​ទេវតា​ហើយ បាន​ដម្កល់​ចិត្ត​ ក្នុង​ព្រហ្ម​លោក​ហើយ។

[៣៣៤] ត្រូវ​និយាយនឹង​ឧបាសក​នោះ យ៉ាង​នេះ​ថា ម្នាល​អាវុសោ ទោះ​ជា​ព្រហ្ម​លោក ​ក៏​នៅ​តែមិន​ទៀង មិនខ្ជាប់​ខ្ជួន រាប់​បញ្ចូល​ជា​សក្កាយ សូមអ្នក​ដ៏​មាន​អាយុ ដក​ចិត្ត​អំពី​ព្រហ្ម​លោក​ចេញ ហើយ​ប្រ​មូលចិត្ត ទៅ​ក្នុង​ព្រះ​និព្វាន ​ជាទី​រំលត់​នូវ​សក្ដាយ​វិញ។​ បើ​ឧបាសក​នោះ​ និយាយ​យ៉ាងនេះ​ថា ចិត្ត​ខ្ញុំ​ដក​ផុត ​អំពី​ព្រហ្ម​លោក​ហើយ ចិត្ត​ខ្ញុំ​ក៏​បាន​ប្រមូល​ ទៅ​ក្នុង​ព្រះនិព្វាន ជាទី​រំលត់​សក្កាយ​ហើយ។ ម្នាលមហានាម ចិត្តដែលរួច​ស្រឡះ​​​​​ដោយ​អរហត្ត​ផល​ វិមុត្តិរបស់​ឧបាសក ដែល​មានចិត្ត​រួចស្រឡះ​ហើយ យ៉ាងនេះ តថាគត​​​មិន​ពោល​ថា មានការ​ធ្វើ​ផ្សេង​គ្នា ​អំពី​ភិក្ខុ​ដែល​មានចិត្ត​រួចស្រឡះ​ហើយ អស់ ​១០០ ​ឆ្នាំ នោះ​តែ​បន្តិច​សោះ​ឡើយ។
