Atma is in progress of editing the Dictionary-original to match following Visions:

- More accessibility for non-scholars and those not wishing to study "useless" to be guided on the path.
- Single word page fit

  • Replacing the used short-codes into read-able language. Not only are codes of manifold use not mentioned (similar Buddhist dictionary) but also hard to understand, hard to find what is searched for. (hoping to make it possible not to annoying by grammer-errors made by my person) [in progress]
  • Replacing source Codes with readable and common known Names and directulinks to (future implemented) Source. [in progress]
  • Splitt out combined word as seperate but retrace-able words: will probably increase the amout of pages from 17.000 to 70.000 Pali-words.
  • replacing all place-holders like --, *, ˚ with the word of topic.
  • direct Cross-links
  • Layout from one "sausage" style to lists and sections.
  • Randering character-use into one suitable ati or tradition standard, especially in regard of am, ṃ, ŋ, ... to aṅ and aṁ use.
  • Corrections of various small "errors" here and there.
  • trying to find a overall it-needed spelling to match with the given system and human ways of use.
  • splitting the propably future 10MB sourcefile for the single pages into handle-able part (many one for each character)
  • bringing out the single 10.000 pages either by hand, one by one, or by "good luck" in other ways.

All by best care to do not lose any generous gift, either by authors or coders, to make them still useable (such as visible and hidden systematic, anchor-code systems...).

(Note: the current online file is not always up to date.)

Sadhu!

Anumodana: Sure does it help, one knowing and informed and all those capable to join rejoicing in the merits done herr. Good deeds help the doer and that is the first to consider and rejoice, taking the goodness of real richness along ones way. What ever has been given is not lost. Mudita!

It will be put into the Sangha-Dana Area.

My person has managed with batchEdit to bring it down to 6,5 Mb, a size the local software can manage slowly, spending the night on it, possible finishing the html-charset into utf-8, one by one, already needing a lot of consideration.

no idea for now how to implement the file later, since many files would make thing complicated in regard of "semi-automatic". Now counting 17.000 word and later possible 50.000 seperate. Will take surely another 2-4 weeks

Vandami, Bhante _/\_

Attached here is a zip archive of split text files from the original file into 746 parts, in UTF-8. The order is like this:

pts_dictionary_toc1.txt
pts_dictionary_toc2.txt
pts_dictionary_foreword.txt
pts_dictionary_listbooks.txt
pts_dictionary_listabbreviations.txt
pts_dictionary_dic001.txt
...
pts_dictionary_dic740.txt
pts_dictionary_afterword.txt

Regarding the "fatal error" of "maximum execution time exceeded", I think it is not possible to change this setting on the server. So it seems use is restricted to smaller files for now.

Not sure why the error already occurs on the sitemap, trying to open and parse each file.

Hope that this helps.

_/\_

* Johann : gift received and put into the Sangha-dana-section, removed here. See Topic PTS-Dictionay utf-8 split into files according topics. (Sangha-Dana) .

Trying to convert the huge file, my person spended good time to copy and paste it into pieces which could be local handable. However, software seems not to remember utf-8 and perfectly destroies the pali-letters into "?" again and again.

Thought of using my persons avaliable working-place, file was uploaded as txt, but it's not possible to open it, giving "fatal error" (which thought would be good to report ).

The file lies at user:johann:work:pts:pts_dictionary for now, trying to use batchEdit to make edits, which probably would work if getting it indexed... tricky.
