Maybe remember good times and that "You are already dead " and enjoy the "having left home". Visiting as soon as possible a monastery might help to get ride of hairs and other things, at least for a while. Yes, long hair, big person... Nyom can be sure that children would "cry" and people at large "fear" him.

So as it seams Nyom will arrive late in the night. May you all meet at best circumstances, well protected by the Devas. And surely, Nyom Sophorn will have thought of all possible required while being in stress and not giving responsibility out of the hand, with so many other things holding, and all your Dhamma-brothers and sisters here in the land are surely of great anticipation and probably most nervous not to meet Nyom.

Not easy... Atma is aware of it. Nevertheless, there is no alternative door beside of giving into first, how ever much one might be corrupted by traders, that there is/are alternatives.

Since Cyber-Nomads usually need the feeling to be able to stay empty in avoiding all what is recognize-able that it nevertheless leads to debts:

So here "free" and "open-source", or better binding toward freedom (when honest said).

Having lived, "when my person was still a wandering Bodhisatta" in Siam Reap for a while, there is less to be expected being not just trade. And of course a huge paradise for "weekend Bodhisattas" and a large voluntary-industry as well a broad. Wat Dom Nak "Guesthouse" is of course the main center of all of this. Meanwhile, nearly 10 years ago, there might be already even more tourism in regard of those interested in Dhamma but surely not toward unbound.

There is surely a large Yoga and Hindu, tourist scene and of course all "Bodhisatva"-inspirations can be found there next beer and music as well, or in more expensive silent areas.

There is said to be a monastery with "relative good" Vinaya, a training Monastery, called "Wat Visuddhimaga" in the lands of Siam Reap. It's said to focus on on mediation.

Around, also near Phnom Kulen, there are surely plenty of places and monasteries familiar also with "western" desires and make their trades with meditation, little focusing on foreign holders as well.

But again, while looking around a little and share what might be accessible for Nyom: It's really all about to be sure where one likes to go and what one is actually really willing to give up to gain either another world desired or to start to go beyond and no one could guide well if there is no clear resolve to either this or that aim or wandering on.

Desiring the path to liberation starts usually with a one-way-ticket, some victuals and a great wide unknown, driven by firm confidence in cause and effect, having made ones refuge and firm in ones resolves of virtue. Where ever such a person would go, he will arrive, Noble and sublime. Yet, if not that far, the land of the Khmer (khema) is surly a good place to put ones "emptiness" under a serious prove, if open for such.

Others: there is already food for all kinds of desires in the world provided and trade here as well but for that better look at common costumer share places, with it's dangers and advantages under gamer.

Nyoms "welcome-sutta" is really a good one, since it gives him to know of what good places, Sanghas of Monks, real follower of the Buddha, would think as well and what it would require to act-ually find ones good destiny or way.

May Nyom shines always where ever he goes and comes to and soon let go of "emptiness" and "yogi", defiling the track, to arrive soon on the highest path, enter the stream to right liberation and right independency.

Thanks for the welcoming words. _/\_

In Beijing now. I have too much useless baggage, having thought I could use a laptop to do some work during the hours waiting in Beijing airport. But that was a very stupid idea.
In any case, not arriving in good mood. Thinking I should have stayed home and waited for a time with less unresolved work.
Would be good maybe if I could leave half of my useless stuff in Phnom Penh or somewhere instead of carrying it around for one whole week. Not sure if such is possible. Maybe Sophorn knows something.  ^-^

Oh, and of course I forgot to cut my beard as suggested. Not yet noticing a disadvantage of that.

Now going to check-in and hopefully arriving in pHnom Penh late in the evening.

Just one who had left home, so no west or east or anything attached, Nyom empty yogi .

Atma saw you have been given guidance by Upasaka gus (thang) on DW today. Today another, possible soon digital Nomad, Upasaka Moritz arrives/arrived under the guardiance of Upasika Sophorn  for a first journey in the land of wonders.

There are many questions Nyom raised. To keep it best into the right direction: where ever one tends to, there he/she arrives.

This land of wonders has a big problem for those seeking security outside and desires for another home, but has still openings for those wishing to walk the wilderness path of the ancient.

Just to give a sample. My person was wandering on and "accidentally" came to the place where now resisting a little. No where there would be even no telephone connection. Now it did not only "accidentally" come to be provided by devices so that a connection to the modern world could be maintained, but in the middle of nowhere, in the forest, having high speed internet people often do not have in Phnom Penh. Others, resisting in "Cyber camps" may have daily troubles on the other side. There is still less that would one provide with the illusion of kamma, cause and effect, but times are changing.

The same is in regard of monasteries. It's up to ones Nissaya, Upanissaya, of which "food" one is searching for and that he may gain as well, sooner or later. If tending to noisy cities and not willing to let go of certain comfort, then the practice will be similar half-hearten, to say not greedy.

Quite areas are generally not to be found in SEasia, aside of possible luxury places or far of and void of any infrastructure.

General it's possible good to inform that organized "trade" with householder Dhamma, especially foreigner has luckily not arisen here although there are certain adventures by those after much gain. That might not be pleasant for common consumer but as there are less preoccupations out of it, it opens t doors for those really seeking to follow the "pioneer".

Maybe get familiar with the other Upasaka and Upasika here, many in normal live in Cambodia, and where ever one goes, it's good to be in association with admirable friends and that will foremost require to leave modern and western habits and to give much into the foundations of [En/De] Respect, Confidence,Patient . Abounding the terrible consumer attitude is probably the most difficult and "starting" by the roots most modern have totally overseen and therefore hard to practice after being taught the higher at to early times.

It's all about gate, gate , paragate, parasamgate ... and if right possible boddhisvaha.

Good topic to start, in manners of learning to give first, is Avatar and User placements , to give others a small impression that one is serious with his intentions and willing to scarifies to gain more sublime.

May Nyom be not to much disturbed by my persons direct and frontal kind and possible understand that time and possibility is not for sure and should not be wasted for the sake of gains in the world. Most feel fast not comfortable since less "giving favor and fake hopes" would be provided.

Much joy in exploring another world and my Nyom never hesitate to ask and also do what ever he feels inspired with good intention at least.

Nyom had possible a good random sutta as well, gifted by the Devas.

Mudita and best greetings to "Wanderer" Gus and that he may not give off too much he may still need for himself in the outer regions.

Hi

Thank you for the welcome message. I'm not sure where to post this:

I heard this forum is run by a western monk living in Cambodia. I'm hoping you/someone can provide some advice.

I am thinking of moving to Cambodia (or elsewhere in SE Asia) for 6-9 months.  I'm a digital nomad so I will be working but will have about 3-4 hours 4-5 days/week (around 10am-1:30pm) where I'd like to go to a monastery to practice, talk philosophy, help out, etc.  I've been practicing for several years, primarily in a Tibetan lineage but I did study a bit with a Theravada abbot from Sri Lanka. I'd really like to spend some time at a Theravada center. I'm drawn to a practitioner oriented place but also value philosophy. I'm less inclined towards ritual. If I wasn't working I'd go to a forest monastery.

Any suggestions?

I was thinking of going to Siem Reap. I heard there are a few active monasteries (Wat Bo, Wat Phrom, Wat Dam Nak, Wat Brasat Tramneak) but I don't have any specifics. Anyone know if there are good practitioners/teachers there and a monk that speaks English?

I'm open to other places but have a few needs: good internet for work (i can use a SIM card), good condition apartment for myself with a kitchen.  I prefer to live in a quieter area with good/better air quality (so PP is out).

I'm also open to other SE asian countries where I can get a visa for at least 3 months.

Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you

Venerable/Dear empty yogi ,

heartily welcome on sangham.net!

Please do not feel startled by our welcome. We attach importance that it might not happen that anybody would be overlooked or that we would not care of personal needs. So the technique helps us a little, in the case we might dwell in deep good or bad concentration of busy with something else.

To approach a new coming guest and visitor and to care for the needs of a arriving traveler is very important.

This is your very personal Topic and you can use it any time to introduce your self, for a Hallo and goodby, to inform others here about personal issues or for any very personal issues in regard of the community here.
From time to time, especially if you make use of this topic, we will move it into the "Further introduction - Genauere Vorstellung " forum, which is only visible for active Members. (for General Info in regard of this and Introduction please see here )

Since the forum is of course different to usual places it will require some help and support and not only out of this reason, please never miss to raise a question or to mention any kind of requirement. Just like home.
You can adjust many settings in your User-profil and add subscription to certain forum-areas (User account >> Profile settings >> group membership). What ever fits best to your practice and needs.

We wish you, empty yogi, much joy on your discovering journey on sangham.net and though the jungle of the Dhamma and we trust, that you will always find the proper things for your requirements and that you will never miss needed support.

Here we give you your random Sutta-stanza originated from the Buddha:
The wise hope for a child
of heightened or similar birth,
not for one
of lowered birth,
   a disgrace to the family.
These children in the world,
   lay followers,
consummate in virtue, conviction;
generous, free from stinginess,
shine forth in any gathering
like the moon
when freed from a cloud.

May Nyom Moritz have arrived or arrives well, and may he have a pleasant welcome and insightful travels in the land of wonders.

May he always meet and find relatedness to what leads him to non-bondage. May all those who assist find joy at their share and don't hesitate to increase it be further share.
