Kathina Robe Ceremony: Offering 84 sets of robes to Ajaan Tong Sirimangalo after the rains. SummaryWe are Sirimangalo International, a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading the teachings of the Buddha in the tradition of Ajaan Tong Sirimangalo. For this year's Kathina Robe Offering Ceremony, we have the ambitious goal of offering 84 sets of robes to our venerable teacher, Ajaan Tong Sirimangalo of Chiang Mai, Thailand.
The offering of robes at the end of the rains is a tradition going back to the time of the Buddha himself, and is considered a great act of merit, since it is traditionally the time when monks are in greatest need of new robes after spending three months in retreat during the rainy season.
In this case, we will offer all 84 sets to our venerable teacher, who will be 91 years old this year. There is expected to be over 100 monks spending the rains in his monastery this year, so the robes will be distributed to the entire community.
