Die Grimmgeschichte "Hans im Glück", an die sich wohl einige von ihnen erinnern, wiederspiegelt sehr gut den Weg des Dhammas und das man im Geben und Loslassen, selbst wenn Empänger und Händler nur Gewinn daraus schlagen wollen, nichts wichtiges und Glückbringendes verlieren kann, sondern mit jeden Handel nur gewinnen kann, wenn man sozusagen Gesegnet, oder es zuvor redlich verdient hat. Die sieben Jahre harte Arbeit stehen für die Zeit gewidmet dem Leben in Rechtschaffenheit und Tun von Verdiensten im Dhamma und erinnern an die maximale Zahl der übrigen Existenzen, wie die sieben Generationen von Ahnen. Die Reise für den letzten Kampf auf dem Weg und das ablegen der Fessel, gut gewappnet mit den alten Verdiensten zum Tausch, und das Zuhause wie die Mutter, für das letztliche Ewachen, Nibbana.

Hier die Geschichte kurz wiederholt, aus dem Wiki, für jene, die die Geschicht nicht kennen, oder sich nicht erinnern:


Hans erhält als Lohn für sieben Jahre Arbeit einen kopfgroßen Klumpen Gold. Diesen tauscht er gegen ein Pferd, das Pferd gegen eine Kuh, die Kuh gegen ein Schwein, das Schwein gegen eine Gans, und die Gans gibt er für einen Schleifstein mitsamt einem einfachen Feldstein her. Er glaubt, jeweils richtig zu handeln, da man ihm sagt, ein gutes Geschäft zu machen. Von Stück zu Stück hat er auf seinem Heimweg scheinbar weniger Schwierigkeiten. Zuletzt fallen ihm noch, als er trinken will, die beiden schweren Steine in einen Brunnen. Endlich ist er glücklich, die schweren Steine nicht mehr tragen zu müssen.

„So glücklich wie ich, rief er aus‚ gibt es keinen Menschen unter der Sonne‘. Mit leichtem Herzen und frei von aller Last ging er nun fort, bis er daheim bei seiner Mutter angekommen war.“


Geschichte im Original

Passend dazu das Gleichnis vom Ehrw. Ajahn Chan:

Unser wahres Zuhause

Dein äußerliches Zuhause ist nicht dein wahres Zuhause.

Es ist dein vermutetes Zuhause, dein Zuhause in dieser Welt.

Was dein wahres Zuhause betrifft, so ist es Frieden.

Buddha weist uns, unser eigenes Zuhause zu errichten:

im Loslassen, bis wir Frieden finden.





The Grimm's-fary tale - some may have been in contact with the German story before - reflects well the way of Dhamma and that one does not really lose in giving and trade, even the receiver or trader might just gain the most for for his sake, but eventually always gains a win, if one is "blessed" or better has rightously gained his earnings before.

The seven years of hard work symbolizing rightous lifes and doing merits in Dhamma and remember also on the maximum seven more existences as well on the seven generations of ancestors. The journey reminds on the last battle on the path, the abounding of the fetters, good adjusted with the old merits for exchange and the home and mother for the final Awakening, Nibbana:

Here the story short retold from Wiki, for those not knowing the story or not remembering it:


Hans has been working hard for seven years but wishes to return to see his poor mother. His master pays him his wages which amounts to a lump of gold the size of his head. Hans puts the gold in a handkerchief and starts out on his journey jogging but soon becomes tired. He spots a rider on horseback and seeing the ease at which the horse travels he offers to exchange his lump of gold for the horse. Happy with the exchange, the man gives him the horse and Hans rides off.

The horse bolts and Hans gets bucked off, whereupon he meets a shepherd who convinces Hans to trade his horse for a cow. Telling Hans that a cow can provide milk, cheese and butter and is of more leisurely company. Hans takes up on the offer and continues his journey only to find that the cow is dry and not producing any milk as he had been told.

Disgruntled with the cow, Hans meets a butcher who gives him a pig for the cow. Thanking the butcher for the pig Hans sets off jogging again, hopeful he has now found an ideal travel companion. Alas, Hans meets a countryman who informs him that the pig's owner is the squire and he is in danger of being arrested for taking the squire's pig. Hans takes the countryman's goose in exchange for his pig, happy that it will provide a good roast and a supply of goose fat.

At his next stop in a village Hans meets a scissor-grinder and explains his story to him. The scissor-grinder offers him a grindstone for his goose arguing that a grindstone will provide a source of income. Hans happily exchanges the goose for the grindstone. He continues on his way, but is tired carrying the grindstone and is short of money for food.

Hans stops for a drink on the banks of a river, the grindstone falls into the deep water and is lost. Hans is happy to be rid of the heavy grindstone and being free of all troubles. He walks on to his mother's house and recounts his lucky tale.

Your Real Home

Your external home isn't your real home.

It's your supposed home, your home in the world.

As for your real home, that's peace.

The Buddha has us build our own home

by letting go till we reach peace.
