[Original post:]
I'm aware of it. Actually there is a monastery of forest tradition (Suddhavari ) under construction in São Lourenço, which still far from where I live. How to know if a Sangha can take root in a specific place?
Mudita.
There have to be the conditions, devotion, faith, respect, virtue: eg. people praising support of parents, generosity, going forth, and the invitation of the King of a place. All of which very socialist/commonist/postmodern places totally lack. If a "Sangha" in a not conductive area appears and settles, then it's just a trader in juwels appearens. Sadly big parts of the western Ajahn Chah lineage has fallen into this category. If strong Thai/Origin country bound then maybe good.
When there is strong desire for gain and becoming corruption, here most by improper relations with lay people, giving favor, "political correctness" such as certain approves to be accepted also where conditions would not allow to take footing.
Most returning Western monks or Sanghas, even originally good house, are like that. Socialworker, favor-doer or Dhamma-seller, not much interest in Sangha and own liberation but bond to the world, giving/selling water bottles and not the spring and make homi-hood with their supporter, place them on the same level, eat with them. So no real refuge often any more.
There is certain Nissaya with expats, having gone to Australia and to Portuguese. Having had a near girlfrind as child, Portuguese Ambassadors their parents, in the kindergardens neighborhood, till causing her to break her arm unintentionally... and there is no island outwardly, from the climate, more comfortable than Madeira. Ever have been there?
That's a place where Dhamma could prosper, based on real Samanas, Bhikkhus. But things might have changed, some 15, 20 years now in the past.
I couldn't understand this part. To whom Ven. Johann are referring to? What is Nissaya? girlfriend as child? Portuguese Ambassadors are their parents? kindergardens neighborhood? break her arm?
I just know that I've never been in Madeira. Did Ven. Johann have been there 15, 20 ago?
Stories of the past, not so importand in detail. Yes my person has been in Madeira in the past. Nissaya means condition, ground, soil or teacher (missusely "luck"), Upanissaya means Strong Condition. That are causes of past and present actions, tendencies. One with certain Upanissaya (strong tendency) has given certain causes in the past, to be bound for a good, bad, merely unbound.
See maybe those topics help for good understandig Nissaya, on all levels:
-
Why it important to value Conditions? - Warum Bedingungen wertschätzen? -
Nissaya - Upanissaya Paccaya - Dependence (Strong) Condition - Grundlageursache -
nissaya While nissaya could be understood as total determined, e.g. fate, the Buddha told that a person of Nissaya is someone who approaches timely the wise and asks.
While a normally people either claim or simply pray for liberation, a person with Nissaya, even in a current bad condition, invests in wise actions, knowing that in this way, by nurishing the proper, the good will naturally grow in him and in regard of outwardly conditions. Steps of Perfection of Nissaya is found in the
Mangala sutta . Nissaya = that what one depends on (inclination to certain food, nurtition)
Btw., if wishing to make the places here more accessible in Portuguese, feel free to do so, just let it be known
How can I help?
No need to help. All what one does, he does for himself at least. But if feeling inspired, able to maintain a mind directed to the Noble Sangha, the Juwels and Nibbana, Nyom could make the enviroment more easier accessable for those just taking what is given.
If he likes to give those speaking Portuguese translation of the boards, forums and Infos, he may look around
here . Ther is no problem to open a specific forum for Portuguese. And no problem if wishing to have certain permissions. What ever he feels inspired to take on. But note to be sure: it is only accepted if destinated to higher and not as any repayment for previous received.
Maintain by what ever service and giving Nyom
Danilo feels inspired, a vision of the Noble Sangha rather something personal grasped as myself, for me for us... but upwardly so that great joy and long terme benefit from serving of what is worthy to give in can be expected. High grade of real learning and insight by giving can be expected without slightes danger of debt through desire. An additional advice: good if resolving not more as one sees him able to and if resolved, stick strong with it till it is min. done like resolved befor. Finished one may take on the next if wishing. Better step by step and continuously than up and down and bond to moods. Quick, and without giving hindrences any ear. Good topic in that relation:
Is changing your mind same as lying? Breaking promises . Not even giving is free but a matter of getting more bound to either liberation or the world, but to make the right choices if there are conditions for it (Nissaya).
Mudita
* Johann : If Nyom Danilo feels fine with it, and because it touches points helpful for others as well, not really something not needed to share with many, but the opposite, Atma would cut of this post, making a new topic.
