The
Buddha allowed the Monks to give talks on Dhamma to laypeople gathering fourteenth, fifteenth, and eighth (day) of the fortnight.
Today this possibility and tradition is twofold undermined:
1. By hindrences such as not really recognising this days as "holly-days"
2. By the tendency of holding holly-days for holydays.
What's Nyom Guest or your workaround to keep good tradition alive?
...in earlier times "Buddhist" would come the day before Sila-day to the monastery and, not going to sleep, after having taken 8 precepts, do 24h merits. "good old times..."
When asked, does it look like: "I get no freetime on those days usually." When freetime: "Oh, at least it's just holey- and not hollyday, today."
