Bhante Khemakumara , it's now more than a year that Venerable has given up everything outwardly, and surely huge inwardly as well.

Kana thought that Bhante might be possible that generouse to reflect on this and share a little about an "special Aussteiger" life.

Maybe some questions as starter:

How does he generally feel now? Better, more worse, similar then a year ago, before going forth?

How about missing things? Does he miss something that he gave up?

How about mental dukkha? More, lesser, same?

How about his health and bodily dukkha? More, lesser, same?

Did he miss out something he expected before? Are there certain insatisfactions till here?

What if things would just stay and repeat as they did/do in this mode? Would such be fine?

Is there anything outwardly he missed, misses after one year, or didn't gain?

Would he recommend others to follow his way or would he recommend differently or another?

Total different life, world, everything: does he feel foreign, still a little, or as if total at home and under relatives?

Did the aspiration, the aims, aim, before and now, changed? Did ideas of which way to reach it changed?

Much joy investigation and may many benefit from possible shares.

Some reflections:

How does he generally feel now? Better, more worse, similar then a year ago, before going forth?

yes!   sometimes feeling better, sometimes feeling more worse, sometimes feeling similar then a year ago.....

feeling this, feeling that,  all the time feeling, feeling, feeling.



How about missing things? Does he miss something that he gave up?


when someone gave up something,  letting go of something, and after a while,  thoughts come up in to the mind, missing this or that what someone gave up in the past ,  that is not really “giving up”.

In the past,as layperson, kana was a musician,working as a tattooartist,working as an educator, working with children, refugees...

kana appreciated being together with good family and good friends and so on..

kana enjoyed “these things” very much.

making “dreams come true” and had success in it.

someone could think and some people told kana “oh, that's really a good life! why giving up such a good life? would you not missing it? "

on one side, when there was something Kana was interested in,  then kana know how to create a surrounding in which it can grow and after a while enjoy the fruits of it.

but on the other side, kana had such a sense of “unsure”. everything in the world is unsure.  being confronted with sickness, death, poorness...



It is not sure to have a good job. It is not sure to have a good family. It is not sure to have good friends. wealth is not sure. home is not sure. food is not sure.

life was and is always “unsure”... in the next moment... dead

kana was always searching for "something" that is not “unsure”. 


kana do not think of “missing” something because kana do not lost something.




How about mental dukkha? More, lesser, same?


yes! sometimes more, sometimes lesser, sometimes same.


How about his health and bodily dukkha? More, lesser, same?


yes! sometimes more, sometimes lesser, sometimes same.

For over 23 years, kana was suffering from asthma, often visit the doctor and was depending on useing strong medications in daily life. until kana went to Cambodia. Now no medication is needed. Kana also suffer from mycotic infection of the feet. Now, this illness is vanish.

Did he miss out something he expected before? Are there certain insatisfactions till here?


no



What if things would just stay and repeat as they did/do in this mode? Would such be fine?

when the foundation is uncertain not stabil how can ever some-thing “just stay”? that is not possible!

Is there anything outwardly he missed, misses after one year, or didn't gain?


no

Would he recommend others to follow his way or would he recommend differently or another?

kana would not recommend other to follow “my” way. but to follow the way of the Buddha, Dhamma, Sangha the eightfold “way” path to free someone from all dukkha.

kana  encourage and recommend everyone,  to follow Buddha , Dhamma, Sangha if someone wish to become free from all dukkha.

Total different life, world, everything: does he feel foreign , still a little, or as if total at home and under relatives?


total different life, world ?

In both worlds there are living mothers.
in both worlds there are living fathers.
in both worlds there are living childrens.
in both worlds there are living families.
in both worlds there are living beings who practice generosity.
in both worlds there are living beings who practice gratefulness.
in both worlds there are living beings who practice sila.
in both worlds someone can experience dukkha.
in both worlds someone can experience sukha.
in both worlds someone can experience old age,  sickness and death.

in both worlds there are living beings with lobha, dosa, moha.

In both worlds, there are living beings, who are searching for a way out of lobha, dosa and moha.


kana can not see that there is total diffrent life, world.

being born “into the world” someone is already a foreigner, no matter which social standing or nationality.

why?  because, when someone is born “into world” someone is already separated from it.feeling “I am ” in this world. Feeling “I am” as constant, stable personality in a world which is unstable, unsure, inconstant. unable to be an insider, unable to be a part of this “community world”.

Always doing things, to get an “access” to it, to not be separated from it.


To feel “total at home” someone needs something to settle down.  a place, where someone can stay, where someone can rest. A place where someone can feel at ease.

kana do not find such a place “in the world”.


the only way, to get rid of “foreign” and being at home, under relatives is to search for someone, search for a community which already gave up “foreign” and become a relative of this community.

the only community which gave up “foreign”, is the noble Sangha of the Buddha.


and their way to home is the homelessness! having the Buddha-Dhamma as their guide.  Arriving at a home,  which is

Namo tassa bhagavato arahato sammā-sambuddhassa

calm, permanent, beyond inference, unborn, unproduced, the sorrowless, stainless state, the cessation of stressful qualities, the stilling of fabrications, bliss.
 





Did the aspiration, the aims, aim, before and now, changed? Did ideas of which way to reach it changed?


first, before practicing, kana thought “I do not want to suffer anymore, what can I do about it?! ”

then, getting in contact with Buddha, Dhamma, Sangha kana thought,

"when will I become free of dukkha? "

Now kana do not think of it very much,do not make an effort in thinking

“when will I be free from dukkha? ”

when someone practise sila, it is a natural cause, step by step, to get rid of dukkha.


Silena sugatiṁ yanti.
Through virtue they go to a good destination.

Silena bhoga-sampadā.

Through virtue is wealth attained.

Silena nibbutiṁ yanti.
Through virtue they go to Unbinding.

Tasmā silaṁ visodhaye
.
Therefore we should purify our virtue.



Namo tassa bhagavato arahato sammā-sambuddhassa

"For a person endowed with virtue, consummate in virtue, there is no need for an act of will, 'May freedom from remorse arise in me.' It is in the nature of things that freedom from remorse arises in a person endowed with virtue, consummate in virtue.



Namo tassa bhagavato arahato sammā-sambuddhassa

"And what is the wholesome? Abstention from killing living beings is wholesome; abstention from taking what is not given is wholesome; abstention from misconduct in sensual pleasures is wholesome; abstention from false speech is wholesome; abstention from malicious speech is wholesome; abstention from harsh speech is wholesome; abstention from gossip is wholesome; non-covetousness is wholesome; non-ill will is wholesome; right view is wholesome. This is called the wholesome.

7. "And what is the root of the wholesome? Non-greed is a root of the wholesome; non-hate is a root of the wholesome; non-delusion is a root of the wholesome. This is called the root of the wholesome.

8. "When a noble disciple has thus understood the unwholesome, the root of the unwholesome, the wholesome, and the root of the wholesome, he entirely abandons the underlying tendency to lust, he abolishes the underlying tendency to aversion, he extirpates the underlying tendency to the view and conceit 'I am,' and by abandoning ignorance and arousing true knowledge he here and now makes an end of suffering. In that way too a noble disciple is one of right view, whose view is straight, who has perfect confidence in the Dhamma and has arrived at this true Dhamma."






kataññū  thankfulness, grateful about mothers, fathers, family, good friends, teachers,Buddha parisā,

 Buddha, Dhamma, Sangha


kana do not practice to “gain” something,  but because of kataññū
thankfulness gratefulness!

This is quite a big change in kanas daily practise.

to practise, not because of “wanting something” but because of gratefulness. 


 
trust, saddhā , in the highest,  trust in Buddha, Dhamma, Sangha, someone will arrive at the highest.
